IF YOU WANT TO KNOW about HWC Guide Service, you have to go straight
to the source: Owner/operator/guide Hank Cioccari.
I concentrate on the average
Bowhunter,” Cioccari says, talking about his hunting operation. "Our
rates are relatively low compared to other higher priced plantation
type hunts. Our policy at HWC Guide Service is strictly fair chase."
While Cioccari doesn't lodge hunters, he
does arrange for them to stay at comfortable, clean and affordable
motels and hotels in the area. You will be guided to a predetermined
location in the early morning hours by Cioccari, who does extensive
scouting in the area before the season begins. Most hunts take place
on state forest lands, which consist of mixed hardwoods, rolling
hills and ridges, and on the fringes of local farmlands.
"Every deer taken with a bow is a trophy," he
concludes. "That's what I strive for. We do have monster bucks in
this region, but they are few and far between. But there are many,
many deer. . ." and hunters have a good chance of getting one during
their hunt with Cioccari.
HWC is based about three hours northwest of
New York City, in the northwestern part of the Catskill Mountains.
Cioccari hunts land in Schoharie, Delaware, Chenango and Otsego
counties, plus has access to some prime tracts close to New York
City, in bowhunting-only Westchester County. Cioccari advises bow
hunters to book early for these hunts, as they are very limited.
Prices include lodging and guide service.
“I just want to add that if you’re an
average hunter who has not had much luck hunting deer with a bow or
gun, call me!” says Cioccari. “We are catering to you! We do not
guarantee the weather or the hunt, but we do guarantee a good time.”
And a solid effort.
